RE-ED Program
Re-Education of Children (Re-ED) Program
In the Re-Education of Children (Re-ED) Program, we believe in the power of education to transform lives. We are dedicated to helping students who typically exhibit intensive emotional disabilities and other significant behavioral challenges, learn to manage their behavior and discover positive solutions for navigating family, school, and community life.
Our program is rooted in the belief that every child has the potential to learn and grow. We emphasize academic competence, coupled with a strong focus on developing responsibility for themselves and towards others. The Re-ED program is built on the foundational 12 Principles of Re-Education, developed by psychologist Nicholas Hobbs, which guide our approach to meeting each student's unique needs.
We provide a comprehensive educational experience, where core academic instruction is enhanced by targeted instructional programs in literacy and math remediation, prosocial skills, and group process. For middle and high school students whose IEPs require it, we also offer enriching career and technical opportunities that connect academic learning with valuable real-world skills. We believe that education should be relevant and prepare students for successful futures.
The Re-ED program primarily serves school-aged students who have been identified with an emotional disability and/or exhibit intensive behavioral challenges that hinder their success in traditional educational settings. Our program model is flexible to meet the unique needs of each student and offers a supportive and structured environment where students can learn and grow.
Our program operates multiple centers throughout the region. Our classrooms typically have a lower staff to student ratio and are staffed by two licensed teachers, one of whom is endorsed in special education. Together, they provide instruction in core academics, aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning, and teach essential prosocial skills and relationship-building strategies. Paraprofessionals are also often available to provide appropriate support. Our exceptional staff members are committed to creating a positive and empowering learning experience for every student.
