Recruitment & Retention - S E C E P Public School Consortium

SECEP has developed methods to raise awareness through social media platforms, giving stakeholders a voice in organizational planning and providing opportunities for parents and educators to celebrate the successes of our programs and students. In addition, community partnership opportunities have been developed, and those partnerships are recognized on our public website.

Staff are recruited from local and out-of-area universities. The Teacher Development Program offers opportunities for nontraditional students to take an alternative path to licensure.

Goal 1: SECEP will increase our presence through community engagement.

1. Expand social media presence.

	SECEP has expanded community engagement through our partnership with TechArk and ODU to support Google Ad and social media campaigns, which include over three hundred and ninety posts. In addition, we developed a process for staff members to submit organic social media content to enable the announcement of activities that highlight personal celebrations and student successes.

	The implementation of Teacher Development Program (TDP) training, the approval and initiation of the iTeach program to support teacher licensure, and our continued relationships with universities to provide paid student teaching opportunities with Liberty, Norfolk State, and Old Dominion University have resulted in eighteen viable teacher candidates for the 2024-2025 school year.

4. Explore opportunities to host or co-host conferences or workshops in Hampton Roads.

	SECEP’s community presence includes participation in KindFest events, the annual Surfer’s Healing, the Tidewater Job Fair, all local college job fairs, and numerous Virginia Values Veterans (V-3) military-supported activities.

1. Enhance the awareness and benefits of our Teacher Development, College Student, and Related Service Internship Programs.

	SECEP developed the college student program with local universities and supports the related service internship programs during the summer program. We attend general career fairs and use Handshake to seek employment opportunities for this group of potential employees.

	SECEP has included clerical, teacher, and administrative staff in local recruitment efforts. In addition, SECEP has included related service staff members to support recruitment efforts at targeted job fairs.

3. Provide a recruitment bonus for staff members that recruit employees who secure employment and meet employer expectations.

	SECEP employees have actively recruited individuals from the community to become SECEP employees. At the conclusion of the 2024-2025 school year, SECEP would have paid recruitment bonuses for twenty-seven referrals.

	SECEP provides thirty-day tokens for free access to 240 Tutoring to staff members with required assessments. In addition, SECEP will require participation in 240 Tutoring for staff members seeking extension requests for licensure based upon difficulty with assessments.
